When I posted my 3D Heart tutorial on the FriendlySkies forum (AoI's version of the Dome), one of the readers liked the idea of leaving the faces faceted, giving the object a 'cut stone' appearance. In the course of the thread, it was pointed out that an AoI user had created a Diamond plugin and made it available on the SourceForce Forum for AoI. Here's the link to the plugin:

When you look under the Tools Menu, you'll see the Diamond plugin, as well as Camera distortion and Displacement distortion options. The other options are for animation purposes; haven't experimented with them yet, but here's a quick diamond render:
