Err....somethings wrong here. I think I have the wrong AoI version or something cause I don't see no free selection thingy or mesh in edit. And when I do the 0.5 it turns it into a flat square..lol

Just to make sure, after you created your sphere, you should set the Triangle mesh tolerance to .
05, not .5. I tried .5 and didn't get a flat square, but it was a freaky lookin' sphere!

To get the the free selection mode/triangle mesh editor I was referring to, once you convert your sphere to a triangle mesh, then double-click on the name of the sphere in the Object List....the same name you right clicked on to convert it to a triangle mesh. That will open up the sphere in the triangle mesh editor and you'll have access to the freehand selection tool that I was talking about.
