hey whats up? i want to change a normal sized pic of myself to a 100 x 100 sized icon. any ideas on how to do this? sorry not sure if im supposed to ask this here.

when you say icon, do you mean like you have on your computer desktop (i.e. with the background completely cut out) or like an avatar?

if it's the latter, go to Image>Scale Image and set it to 100x100 (if your image is a square. otherwise keep the aspect ratio and set one dimension to 100 and crop it)

If you are talking about an avatar like you see to the left there.. then I would recommend this process:

1) Open in gimp a new canvas at the right size. You stated 100x100
2) File > Open as Layers and select your pic
3) OMG Its huge! So then we must scale it down
4) Layer > Scale Layer
5) I like using the percentage option so change from pixels to percent and then enter some numbers to test.
6) CTRL+Z is undo. Try to scale it once to the right size rather than scale and re-scale over and over.
7) Post it here so we can see and offer help if needed.
