Snippy

If you have ever used Vista or Windows XP Tablet PC you may be aware of the snipping tool. It is a great little screen capture tool that allows you to capture any portion of the screen you want and drop it on the clipboard. Normally screen captures involve the prnt scrn button and then loading your paint/graphics program and then pasting the image and then cropping the image. The down side is that as far as I can tell no one has been able to find a version that will run inside of Windows XP pro.

Well that is where Snippy comes in. This tool allows for a free form screen area capture or a box if you use the shift button. Granted it does not have the other features of the Windows Snipping tool, like the highlighter and the file saving capabilities, but it will allow you to grab certain portions of the screen as fast as click drag release. Then you paste it, play with it and post it on the net. Great tool for making tutorials.

And yes it is free.

I have added a shortcut to my windows startup folder in my start menu so that I always have it available. Once loaded F11 is the hotkey to bring the Snippy pencil into view and you are ready to capture.

Happy snipping.

I have also come across a much more powerful tool called MWSnap.

Too many features to talk about here, but lets just say that Snippy just doesn't quite cut it when compared to MWSnap, :D
