Open Source photo management app on Windows?
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:07:15 PM »
Using Gimp and loving it.   Looked at DigiKam & Darkroom which look great but only Linux.

Can anyone recommend an open source equivalent for Windows?

DigiKam has been ported to windows already but it looks like you may need to build it. below is a link to the article about it.

From what i can tell Picasa is the closest thing for windows. I don't believe it is open source but it is free.

As far as darkroom i have never used it. Do you have a link to their project page?

I'm not smart enough to build DigiKam on windows so it looks like a no-go at least for now.

I'll take a look at Picasa, hopefully there is no big brother issues with Google's involvement.

there is also rawtherapee:  http://www.rawtherapee.com/

rawtherapee is looking pretty good, there is already a solid 2.4.1 windows version which I might try, and they've got a 3.x alpha in testing.

Another plus, the manual says that rawtherapee doesn't mess with the windows registry, it's a really well behaved portable app.  The only apps I'd prefer to use going forward ...
