Darth, I never could locate the flag texture that was used in the 3D text program to create my "Fencepost - An American Original" sig. However, I just downloaded a flag and gave it my best shot. It's not perfect, but hey, we're using a 2D program!
The only real difference to create this was I bumped mapped the flag layer using much smaller bump map settings. One flag layer was bumped using the black and white layer and the other flag layer with a plain white text layer. Be careful about using too high of depth settings in the bump map. You'll end up getting the edges too dark. Mine never looked right when that happened, so I backed way off the depth and played with the ambient setting a bit. Maybe the bump map can be done after changing the perspective. At least you'll know what you're getting. To give this particular font a sharper edge, I did an Alpha to Selection on the top text layer, created a new layer, filled it with black, shrunk it by one pixel, deleted the innards, dropped the opacity, and set the layer to Hard Light.
What do you think?
