How to put a Gradient in your text:

first, go type your text with a bold font, goto the layers tab, click on the Keep Transparent box (the box next to layer mades), get the gradient tool, select the gradeint you want, click on either side of your text, press the ctrl button on your keyboard, drag the tool over to the other side of the text.

now your font is colourful, but, we still need a border.

right-click on the layer and click Alpha to Selection, now, do Select>Save to Channel, now do Select>Grow grow it by 1, click OK, do Alpha to Selection again on the text layer, make sure the text layer is selected when you do so, goto the Channels tab and right-click on the channel you made, select 'Subtract from Selection', now, fill the selection with back, do Select>None.

congrats!
you're done! :D

EDIT: it should look like the text in this pic now,
